A note from the artist; In
1994, while selling my small canvas paintings on the streets
in New York two gentleman walked by. Both were deep in conversation
when one of them did a double take, turned around and walked
back to my simple table covered with various paintings. They
discussed, with Dutch accents, views of the sun setting from
both the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. One painting they seemed
transfixed on was of lower Manhattan with silhouettes of the
buildings. I was delighted when they purchased several of these
paintings and pleased to have tourists enjoy my work; at the
time I did not realize they were not regular tourists. Several
weeks later both these men were in the newspaper for running
the New York Marathon the caption under their picture read Prince
Bernhard and Prince Maurits of the Netherlands.
